Pick your TV.

CoolDash runs on Android TV, on its own little Linux, and talks to a small host at home if you want one. Free, open source.

01

Android TV

Google TV and Android TV 9 or newer. Not on the Play Store: install the APK.

Android TV launcher

not published yet

CoolDash becomes the home screen of your Android TV or Google TV box. The Home button brings you back to it.

  1. On the TV: Settings › Device preferences › Security › allow installs from your file manager or browser.
  2. Download the APK on the TV (or copy it on a USB stick) and open it.
  3. Press Home and choose CoolDash, "Always".

Android TV app

not published yet

The same dash as a normal app, next to your usual home screen. Nothing changes until you open it.

  1. Allow installs from your file manager or browser, as above.
  2. Download the APK and open it.
  3. Open CoolDash from your apps row.
02

CoolDash OS

A whole system for a box behind the TV. It updates itself and goes back to the previous version if an update doesn't start.

Raspberry Pi 4

not published yet

The same system on a Pi 4 or a Pi 400: 2 GB of RAM or more. Updates by themselves, with the safe A/B switch.

  1. Write the image to a microSD card (16 GB or more) with Raspberry Pi Imager or balenaEtcher.
  2. Put the card in the Pi 4, plug it into the TV, power on.
  3. Set it up with your TV remote: language, Wi-Fi, account.

A Pi 4B from the first batches (board 1.0 or 1.1) needs its bootloader writable for updates (the default).

Raspberry Pi 5

not published yet

A light Linux that boots straight into the dash: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth remotes, HDMI-CEC (your TV remote), updates by themselves.

  1. Write the image to a microSD card (16 GB or more) with Raspberry Pi Imager or balenaEtcher.
  2. Put the card in the Pi 5, plug it into the TV, power on.
  3. Set it up with your TV remote: language, Wi-Fi, account.

PC (x86-64)

not published yet

The same system on a mini PC or an old laptop plugged into the TV. UEFI, 4 GB RAM is plenty.

  1. Write the image to a USB stick or the PC's disk with balenaEtcher (or dd).
  2. Boot from it (UEFI), with the PC plugged into the TV.
  3. Set it up with the remote or a keyboard.

Host at home (Docker)

Not a download: a small server for your home network. It serves the panel (edit every TV from your phone or computer), keeps your accounts and settings, wakes your TVs and runs extensions while they sleep. Runs on a NAS, a Raspberry Pi or any computer with Docker. The cloud stays optional.

One command

$ docker run -d --name cooldash-host --network host -v cooldash-data:/data ghcr.io/gandalf63/cooldash:latest

Then open http://<your computer>:8787 and create the admin account. Your TVs find the host by themselves.

Or with Docker Compose

services:
  cooldash-host:
    image: ghcr.io/gandalf63/cooldash:latest
    restart: unless-stopped
network_mode: host # wakes your TVs (Wake-on-LAN) and lets them find it
    environment:
